Siblings!

Once Addie began understanding and talking more, Caden actually began to perceive her as a playmate. In the past several months, their relationship has really flourished and it is pretty amazing to experience. I should start with the obvious, that there are many moments throughout the day where the battle like siblings do: fighting for the same toy, competing for mom's attention, or just plain terrorizing each other for the fun of it. Mostly though, they play really well. Addie calls Caden "Dee Dee" (and he often calls her "Adds") and is his little shadow. She follows him around the yard mimicking what he does: looking for snails, playing tractors in the dirt, mowing the lawn, etc. He really enjoys her company (and telling her what to do!). When we are playing with friends, he is very protective of Addison. If another child takes a toy from her, Caden will tell that child to return the toy because his "sissy" had it first. He cautions her about natural dangers, such as spiders, busy streets, crazy dogs, bees, etc. When she wakes up, she usually first asks for "Dee Dee" and often will go up to him for "nuggles". Though they have their moments, at the end of the day, they are the best of playmates.
