Caden and Addie are just starting to reach the point where they enjoy playing together. She has always taken an interest in whatever he is doing, but he is just now starting to want to include her in play. He is quite protective of her and I hear him saying things to her throughout the day that I say. "Not for babies, Addie." or "Addie you can't climb up there (the bathroom stool) or you will get hurt." They are both hilarious and crack me up on a daily basis. The other day, Caden and Jon were playing and Caden didn't like something that Jon was doing and so Caden said, "Jonathan, stop that"! Jon said to me, "I wonder where he got that from?!"
Caden is a very social, outgoing, little character. Lately he has been telling people that he is "seven and a half" years old and I still have no idea where he got this from. I try to explain to him that he is about to turn 3, and he gets it, but he still tells everyone, often times unprompted, that he is 7.5. Caden recently got a new bike, called a balance bike which is essentially a little bike without wheels. He LOVES this bike and requests to ride it everywhere and calls it his "special big boy bike". He is also trying to understand the concept of time and will often ask me, "mom, what time is it?" and sometimes he will randomly tell me the time. The other day he told me, "mom, it is thirty twelve right now", seriously hilarious. Caden starts pre-school 2 half days per week next month and we are all nervous and excited to see how it goes...
On the not so funny side, we had our first broken bone last week. Caden's over eager mother (me) took off his bed rail thinking he didn't need it any more, and that night he rolled right out of bed and crashed to the floor. He screamed for the next 2 hours and refused to get off the couch the next day so off to the doctor we went. Caden was only complaining about pain in his cheek so the doctor did a pretty thorough exam and thought he was ok, just not too tolerant to pain (ahhh ha, I thought, just like his dad :) The next day Caden was still in an immense amount of pain and very clearly protecting his left side so back to the doctor we went and this time an xray revealed a clavicle fracture. What is the course of treatment for this injury, you might ask? Just have your toddler take it easy the next three weeks. Anyone with an active boy toddler knows this is much easier said than done but to his credit, he does self regulate well and it seems to be getting better.
