Potty Training!

Those of you without young kids will probably find this post boring and gross and those of you with young kids will likely be entertained....

We started potty training Caden about one month ago. He previously expressed interest in pooping on the potty but would do so only sporadically. At the end of our summer, I stocked up on Thomas the Train underpants and started the process. The first day was a disaster. He had 4 accidents in his pants before noon and out of frustration I gave up. After consulting with some experts (other moms of toddlers) I realized that I was going about it wrong. Instead of asking him every 20 min if he needed to go, I had to physically take him to the potty and have him try to do his business. 20 minutes goes by fast! The next few days were better but still accident ridden. His little potty is a permanent fixture in the back of my car now. A side story is that I asked Jon to buy Caden a little potty at Babies R Us on his lunch break one day, big mistake! Jon came home with the deluxe potty that has several songs about poop and pee and toilet paper and every time I hit a bump or take a turn, the potty starts singing, its lovely.

So all in all, Caden is doing a great job with potty training. He was motivated to pee with the incentive of earning skittles (which was great because we are working on colors too)! When he poops, he earns the big prize of ice cream or cookies. He still occasionally poops in his pull-up during naps and 1st thing in the morning, but we go most days without any accidents in the underpants, yipppppeeeeeee!
